Summary[]
Grandmother Bear, Grandfather Bear, Mother Bear, Father Bear, Little Bear, Emily, Duck, Cat, Hen, Owl, Mitzi, Granny, Tutu, and Moose are all celebrating at the Harvest Day Picnic. Owl and Emily are putting up the Harvest Day banner. Cat tells Owl that he needs to pull his side lower, but this makes the branch Owl is standing on break. Father Bear helps Owl up and wishes everyone a happy Harvest Day.
Little Bear is helping organize the desserts. He tells Mother Bear to put her chocolate tarts between the peach cobbler and the butterscotch fudge. He then declares part of the table the pudding section and says that all the cookies should go in a separate area of the table. Granny comments that Little Bear knows his desserts prompting Mother Bear to explain that Little Bear has a very big sweet tooth. Little Bear suggests that he might have more than one and Grandfather Bear adds that he probably has a whole mouthful.
Father Bear comes over and asks for some help setting up the games. Everyone but Little Bear cheers with excitement and leaves the dessert table to help Father Bear. Emily asks Little Bear if he is coming, but he tells her that he is first trying to decide about the desserts. Emily comments that it is hard to decide which to pick, but Little Bear says he'll eat all of them. Emily wishes him good luck and leaves to help Father Bear.
While Little Bear is still at the dessert table, Father Bear announces through a megaphone that the Harvest Day games have begun. Father Bear further asks for the sack race contestants to take their places. Mother Bear goes back to the dessert table to bring Little Bear to the sack race. As Little Bear takes his place at the starting line, Owl exclaims that Cat doesn't have all his feet in the sack. Cat tells Owl that he'll only use two of his legs for the race.
After everyone takes their place at the sack race starting line, Granny waves a red handkerchief at the finish line to start the race. Everyone starts hopping in their sacks across the field. Hen falls down almost immediately. Duck trips not long after and, when she gets up, accidentally continues in the wrong direction. Little Bear, inspired by this, turns around and hops back to the dessert table.
While Little Bear hops back to the dessert table, Mitzi worries as she sees Cat and Emily approaching the finish line. To catch up, she climbs a tree and starts swinging across the branches. Owl flies up to stop Mitzi from breaking the rules. Nevertheless, Mitzi makes it across the finish line. Mitzi cheers with excitement thinking she won, but Granny explains to her that swinging is not allowed and Mitzi is disqualified.
Since Cat and Emily were the next to cross the finish line and did so at the same time, they are the winners. Everyone cheers and Little Bear comes back to congratulate them. Owl asks Little Bear where he has been, and Little Bear says that he took a wrong turn, to which Mother Bear asks if this is so in a bemused tone while brushing cookie crumbs off of his chest.
Duck feels disappointed thinking she will not win any games. Father Bear explains to Duck she might like the next game, musical chairs. Duck gets excited saying she loves that game, so everyone gets ready to play. Granny starts the music on a record player and everyone starts walking around the chairs. When she stops the music, everyone runs for a chair to sit in, everyone except Little Bear, which makes him out. Little Bear's lack of effort upsets Emily, who says that he did not even try.
While Granny starts the music again and everyone starts walking around the chairs again, Little Bear heads back to the dessert table. Granny comes by and asks Little Bear who he is talking to. Little Bear explains he is talking to his sweet tooth, and his sweet tooth told him to have another cookie. Emily calls Granny back for the music and Granny leaves Little Bear at the dessert table. Little Bear crawls under the table and grabs a block of fudge to eat next.
In the game of musical chairs, after Little Bear, the next five to go (in an unknown order) are Grandfather Bear, Grandmother Bear, Hen, Mitzi, and Owl. And the final five to go (again in an unknown order) are Duck, Mother Bear, Father Bear, Cat, and Emily, leaving Tutu as the champion. Hearing everyone cheering, Little Bear comes out from under the desert table.
Duck is still disappointed, asking herself if there is a game that she can win. Mother Bear says the next game is bobbing for apples, which excites Duck who is good at that game. Father Bear gets everyone to help him fill the tub. But Little Bear hears his sweet tooth tell him that the next dessert he must try is the peach cobbler, so he goes back to the dessert table.
After Mother Bear pours the apples into the tub, everyone starts to play bobbing for apples except for Little Bear. Emily goes first but does not succeed. Owl goes next but also fails. Mitzi follows suit before Little Bear finally joins his friends. Hen suggests that Little Bear should go next, but Little Bear, after patting his stomach and sighing, tells Duck to go instead.
Duck tells everyone to stand back, and that she will show them how it is done. Duck bobs her head into the tub, and then, she succeeds to grab an apple. Grandfather Bear, Father Bear, and Grandmother Bear all congratulate Duck for winning the bobbing for apple game. After this, Grandmother Bear announces the biggest contest of the day, the Harvest Day Pie Eating Contest. Everyone gets excited, but Little Bear passes and sits against a tree trunk to rest.
Mother Bear comes up to him and asks if he has a stomach ache, and Little Bear tells her that he does. He explains that his sweet tooth wanted to try every dessert. Mother Bear understands and suggests that she and Father Bear take Little Bear home and put him to bed. Back at Little Bear's house that night, Father Bear asks him if his stomach feels better, to which Little Bear that it does feel just a little better.
Little Bear says that he thinks he lost his sweet tooth, which Mother Bear says can happen. Little Bear asks if they think it will ever come back and Father Bear says it probably will. Mother Bear then says goodnight to Little Bear and Mother Bear and Father Bear leave Little Bear by himself to get some sleep. Before going to sleep, Little Bear looks up at the moon and imagines it as a pumpkin pie, but Little Bear doesn't want any now, but maybe tomorrow.
Background information[]
- Moose is only seen near the beginning of this episode.
- In the sack race, although it is not explicitly stated, it is likely that flying is also against the rules and that, despite his good intentions, Owl was also disqualified because he flew while attempting to stop Mitzi from swinging.
- If Owl was indeed disqualified, than it is likely that Grandfather Bear came in second place, given that Mitzi was also disqualified, Emily and Cat won, and no one else reached the finish line.
- It is unknown who won the pie eating contest.
